Remembrance Day Service 2025

Written by - Sadie Year 13

Remembrance Day brings together young and old to remember those who sacrificed their lives in war; “For your tomorrow, we gave our today”.

On Tuesday, 11th November, we held one of our most significant services in remembrance to those not only who we have lost as individuals, but also those who we have lost as a school. Our Remembrance Service remains unchanged for over 50 years, and as a Head Student, I had the honour to present the following reading alongside Ben Evans: Revelation: Chapter 21, Verses 1-7. Ms Lambe led the event, reading prayers and a benediction, Mr Batten read the roll of honour, and Mrs Hunt laid the wreath. The Chamber Choir also played an important role in the service, supporting the hymn “O God our help in ages past” and singing a lovely rendition of “Tears in Heaven”. The Last Post and Reveille were played by Joshua Vinh, who made an outstanding effort in doing so.

We would like to thank those who attended the event and conducted themselves with such seriousness and respect through the entirety of the service and especially the minute’s silence. We are so grateful to have invited the following dignitaries to our service Mr David Williams, Mr Allan Hyland, Mr and Mrs Gibbs, whom I had the pleasure to meet personally. Our 6th Form pupils and Year 10 set such a high standard for the following years to come, acting with such sincerity during the event in Balch Hall. We would also like to thank every other pupil, who watched the service live from their classrooms, for their attentiveness to Remembrance Day and the days leading up to the service, where they demonstrated their respect in buying poppies and Poppy Appeal merchandise from our Prefects.

This tradition will continue as a school for many years to come. Although we take the time to celebrate those who lost their lives in war through a service once a year, we should take the time to appreciate them and their efforts everyday.

We Will RememberThem.
