Earlier this month, Mrs Sansom, Mrs Gateley-Maxwell and six of our brilliant Year 12 and 13 students headed off on the annual trip to the Glan Llyn Urdd residential centre—ychydig bach of a tradition we all look forward to!
From the moment we arrived, it was pawb ar ben ei hun (all systems go!). Students took part in a series of A-Level inspired sessions, including speaking practice for Patagonia and Crash, plus writing seminars exploring the joys (and occasional tears!) of poetry and short stories. The academic side was bendigedig—but don’t worry, there was plenty of fun mixed in too.
Because what’s a trip to Glan Llyn without an escape room? Our group proved they could dianc (escape)… eventually. There was also Christmas late-night shopping in Bala, which definitely tested everyone’s willpower (“Do I need this?” quickly became “Dw i eisiau hwn!”). And of course, the outdoor activities: archery, canoeing, and high ropes—ideal for anyone who enjoys dangling from great heights while pretending not to scream.
Transport was a highlight in itself. We travelled in a 32-seater bus… for six students and two teachers. Yes, tri deg dau! There was so much room that if anyone fancied a nap, they could practically choose a postcode. You’ve never seen such luxury—First Class? Na… this was Bus Class.
We rounded off the adventure with an afternoon in Aberystwyth, taking in the seaside sights—in the rain, naturally. Nothing says Wales like a windswept stroll followed by a much-needed, very lovely lunch to warm us back up.
It was a trip full of laughter, learning, hwyl, and memories we’ll be talking about for a long time. And honestly? We can’t wait for next year already.
Diolch yn fawr, North Wales—same time next year?
