We were delighted to welcome parents, carers and members of our wider cymuned to our recent Noson Goffi, an evening designed to celebrate the Welsh language and encourage everyone to siarad Cymraeg — whether learning something new or confidently using Welsh already known.
The event was organised and led by our wonderful Criw Cymraeg, who worked enthusiastically to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere (croeso cynnes) to all of our parents and carers. Staff members in attendance included H Sansom, D Llewelyn, V Hill and E Watkin who supported the evening with their use of Welsh and participated in the various stations and conversations with our parents.
Refreshments were kindly provided, with te, coffi, sgwash and a selection of delicious cacennau, including traditional Welsh treats such as picau ar y maen, bara brith and mins peis. The coffee station was expertly run by our incredible Year 11 pupils Emilie, Izzy and Nia, who impressed everyone as parents confidently ordered their drinks yn Gymraeg.
Parents and carers then visited a range of engaging activity stations led by our Criw Cymraeg representatives from Year 7 through to Year 11. These included:
A Conversation Station for our more confident Welsh speakers and learners;
A Basics Station, focusing on greetings, days and months;
A Year 7 Love Spoons Station, where parents learned about the tradition and created their own love spoons using playdough;
An Opinions Station, learning key vocabulary surrounding providing opinions;
A Year 10 verbs, nouns and adjectives station, linked to the short story “Y Rhigos a’r Fan Hufen Ia”;
A Christmas Vocabulary Station, where the Bingo became very competitive indeed!
The evening was full of laughter, learning and hwyl, and it was wonderful to see Cymraeg being used so positively across generations. Events like this truly show the strength of our school community and our commitment to promoting the Welsh language beyond the classroom.
Diolch yn fawr to everyone who attended and contributed to making the evening such a success. We look forward to planning more events like this and continuing to celebrate Welsh language and culture together.
