Newport Grand Council visit

Updated: Nov 13, 2024

by Miss G Jenkins

On Friday 11th October, Basslaeg was represented at the Newport Grand Council by two Y7 pupils, Joe Sillince and Will Palframan.

The boys, both members of the Future Leaders council which regularly makes links with other local schools, attended on behalf of our school community. The event took place in the Riverfront Theatre and was attended by 25 other schools from across Newport.

While taking part in workshops and activities across the day (including a very exciting opportunity for a ukulele lesson!) the boys also had a chance to give feedback to local council members about their feelings and experiences of sport within school, and to discuss the rights of children across Wales and how these can be safeguarded in our schools.

Joe and Will were fantastic ambassadors for our school and the day was hugely successful. We are already looking forward to hosting the summer term’s Grand Council meeting at Bassaleg in June, to welcome the council members into our school, and continue to share ideas and make links with other learners across Newport.
