L2YP News - This year’s first Health and Happiness Day!

Written by - Evie and Sophia Year 12

On Friday 29th September, the first Health and Happiness day of the new school year was held to raise money for Cruse Bereavement Support, a UK-based charity that supports those coping with loss and grief. Cruse comes into school every Friday to offer help to students who have suffered a loss, therefore making this Health and Happiness day very meaningful as we wanted to give back to a charity that means a lot to us as a school.

At lunchtime, pupils followed the arrows directing them to the Sixth Form Hub where many fundraising stalls had been set up, including ‘Name the Teddy’ – well done to Sofia in Year 9 for correctly guessing the name! – as well as stalls offering cakes, crisps and sweet bags, and facepainting - the minion face paint was a standout!

As well as this, many new Year 12 Prefects were given the opportunity to assist with the fun for the first time, and many pupils also enjoyed wearing P.E. clothes and Leavers tops. Despite the new policy against wearing non-school uniform on Health and Happiness days, donations were not few and far between – this Health and Happiness Day was a great success thanks to lots of pupil participation. Overall, £540 was raised for the charity!

We are eagerly anticipating our next Health and Happiness day, which will take place on Friday 24th October at the end of our Autism Awareness Week. On this day we will be helping to raise money for Sparkle, a life-changing Newport-based charity that helps young people with developmental difficulties and disabilities, and their families. We hope to see many of you there!
