Between 27th February and 1st March, our Year 9 pupils enjoyed a fantastic residential visit to Glan Llyn in North Wales. The aim of the trip was simple: to give pupils the opportunity to practise a little Cymraeg while taking part in exciting outdoor activities and having plenty of fun together.
Over the three days, pupils fully embraced the experience. They showed great teamwork while canwio (canoeing) and adeiladu rafft (raft building), learned new outdoor skills during gwylltgrefft (bush craft), and challenged themselves with saethyddiaeth (archery), dringo (the climbing wall), and cwrs raffau (the high ropes course). There was also time to relax and enjoy activities such as nofio (swimming) and neuadd chwaraeon (sports hall) free time, which were a big hit with everyone.
Throughout the trip, pupils were encouraged to use simple Welsh phrases such as “Bore da”, “Diolch”, and “Da iawn!” in their conversations and activities. It was great to hear the sound of Cymraeg being used naturally with the staff in Glan Llyn, and even with each other!
The final day of the trip also fell on St David’s Day – Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, making the visit even more special. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Welsh culture, language and the beautiful surroundings of Gogledd Cymru.
Our Year 9 pupils represented the school brilliantly, showing resilience, enthusiasm and excellent teamwork throughout the visit. Da iawn pawb! We are extremely proud of the way they approached every challenge and supported one another.
A big diolch yn fawr to the staff who organised and accompanied the trip, and to the team at Glan Llyn for such a memorable experience.
Ardderchog, Blwyddyn 9!
