Eisteddfod 2025 – A Day to Remember!

On July 11th, 2025, our school came alive with the sights, sounds, and spirit of the annual Eisteddfod! Year 8 kicked things off, followed by Year 7 – and both year groups fully embraced the celebration of Welsh culture and identity.

The day was packed with excitement: from games and competitions to our much-loved Chairing of the Bard. And, of course, there were plenty of house points up for grabs!

A huge thank you to Mrs Parfitt, Mr Roche, Mrs Scott-Jones, and Mr Wheeler for organising and hosting the event – especially in the sweltering 30-degree heat! Pupils had a blast transforming into dragons and leeks, sketching beautiful daffodils, and delivering their finest Nessa impressions.

The talent on display was phenomenal. Bassaleg School is bursting with creativity, and it was heartwarming to see learners perform so confidently in front of their peers. Every performance was met with pride and applause – and we even had a surprise appearance from a special guest all the way from Las Vegas… our very own Elvis Presley!

We also can’t forget the legendary staff Welsh cake challenge. We’ve all heard how tricky it is (from every staff member to have ever participated!) to eat three Welsh cakes in under 90 seconds – but now our staff can confirm just how tough (and hilarious) it really is!

Subject competitions were another highlight, with fantastic entries in History - Hanes, Spanish - Sbaeneg, and RVE - Addysg Grefyddol. A big congratulations to all the winners – your work was truly outstanding.

Finally, our prestigious Chairing of the Bard competition was celebrated across both Welsh - Cymraeg and English - Saesneg. The level of imagination and creativity on display was inspiring – a huge well done to everyone who took part.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s Eisteddfod. Diolch yn fawr to all who made it so special!
