Celebration for Pupils with Exceptional Behaviour

On the 24th and 25th of September, Aramark kindly offered to provide a drink and cake for over 300 pupils in years 8-11 who had achieved zero behaviour points last year. The celebration brought students together, allowed them to feel seen and rewarded them for their positive impact on school life.

Last week, the school held the very first celebration, recognising pupils' hard work and positive behaviours. The students were given the opportunity to enjoy desserts and spend time reflecting on the impact that they have on the school and how they make it the welcoming and hardworking environment that it is today. They received juice, a choice of cakes and received a talk from our head teacher, Miss Lambe. The pupils then had a chance to see just how grateful we are for their contribution and dedication to our school.

Our Year 8/9 students invited had told us about how they “enjoyed having a special opportunity to work towards”. Our Year 10 and 11s have fed back that it is especially gratifying and important to have a relaxed, off timetable treat like this post exam stress. Furthermore, many students felt as though they were “finally seen and rewarded for good behaviour” and given the time to “Feel good about yourself, feel proud to be at Bassaleg school”. Overall, students were delighted to be recognised and appreciated.

Our teachers were overjoyed to finally give our students the recognition they deserved! Some teachers even mentioned how “Moments like these are why I love my job”. Mrs Sullivan revealed to us how this celebration is “Not just about them, it's about the positive impact they have on the rest of the school”. Teachers celebrated how our school works so well because of the kind, dedicated and respectful pupils within.

To conclude, this celebration was a success! We hope to hold more of these celebrations in the future to reward those who deserve it. A massive thank you to all of our teachers who helped organise it, Aramark, who kindly provided food and drink, and most importantly, to the students for being amazing and making Bassaleg School a lovely place to learn and work.
