Bassaleg Bake Off – Wednesday 2nd July

The 2nd July was a very special day at our school. The Future Leaders Council prepared an amazing event, working side by side with Aramark. This gave Bassaleg Bake Off competition finalists the chance to compete in the Great Bassaleg Bake Off. Pupils drew and illustrated a design based on a ‘Spring’ theme. We are now going to introduce our best Bassaleg bakers.

Sofia is a Year 8 student. She designed and made white chocolate and raspberry cupcakes, inspired by her grandparents. She decorated her cupcakes with chunks of white chocolate and real raspberries.

Nia is a Year 7 student. She designed and made ‘ocean themed’ vanilla and jam cupcakes with a yellow and blue fondant icing, inspired by her holiday in Tenby with her parents and siblings.

C-Jay is also in Year 7. He made vanilla and chocolate cupcake decorated with chocolate frosting and chocolate eggs.

Poppy and Myla are a duo in Year 7. They made a Victoria sponge cupcake with green apple and raspberry icing to give it a Spring feeling.

Zoe in Year 7 has made shooting star cupcakes, inspired by her home baking.

The contestants worked hard to bring their ideas to life in the hopes that their delicious cupcakes can be sold in our school restaurant. C-Jay’s cupcakes were first in the oven, followed closely by Sofia’s which were second in the oven. The Future Leaders Council worked in teams to encourage the bakers during the event and interview them about how they were getting on.

Finally, it was time to decide on the winner. All of the bakers did an amazing job and everyone’s cupcakes were unique, making this a difficult choice! Sofia and Zoe’s cupcakes were voted as the favourites, leaving one final, important decision to be made about which would be sold in our school restaurant…

Congratulations to Zoe! Her shooting star cupcakes will be on sale from Monday. Well done to everyone who participated and a big thankyou to Aramark for organising this event.
